Q. How is my Password Data
saved? Is it Encrypted?
A. The newest version of Password Keeper which is about to be released uses the following encryption schemes:
The username/password pair is stored as 128-bits of a 256-bit SHA Hash Key derived using a seed which also incorporates the username/password pairs themselves.
The main Password Keeper data is encrypted using AES Encryption with 256-bit keys, which again contain hash keys based on the username/password pair unique to the person logging into Password Keeper. AES Encryption is a US Government approved and promoted encryption algorithm.
With the above scheme, even the author of Password Keeper can not crack a password file, which is to say that the username/password can not be derived from the data. Without the username/password pair, the Password Keeper data file is useless. This also ensures that each file is encrypted differently based on the username/password pair used to encrypt them, so every Password Keeper file is unique and can not be opened by another user.
